This time three weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Jo & Steve at The Regent Hotel in Doncaster. And what a lovely task for a Thursday it was! The sun was shining, and everyone’s spirits were high. As the ceremony was not until 3pm, we arrived at Jo’s parents house in the afternoon, and I have to say, it was the most relaxed atmosphere we’ve ever had on a wedding day! Usually there are bridesmaids frantically running around, the Mother of the Bride fussing about one thing or another and the Father of the Bride anxious about giving away his little girl… Not today!

We were offered tea and coffees on arrival, and even lunch! We politely declined the lunch as we wanted to get on with shooting the action!

We clicked away whilst Jo got ready, doing her own make up effortlessly. You’d have thought she was getting ready for a trip in to town with how chilled out she was, seriously, it was strange! But it was good news for us, as we soon blended in to the background as the day progressed.

Jo’s little girl, Lucy, was shy but excitable. Having encountered us previously at the meetings we’d had with Jo & Steve, she was familiar with us. But that didn’t stop her running away from Marcus when he tried to take a photo! Luckily, she let me photograph her, and Marcus got some great sneaky pics.

Jo & Steve married at Doncaster Register Office, with a very small but intimate wedding party. Having written and read their vows together, you could see the sheer love that they had between them and it was beautiful to photograph.

The reception was held at The Regent Hotel, situated on the side of a vast grassy square, which was perfect for photos! The room they had hired was cozy, and the best bit was… They had a self-service Pick ‘n’ Mix!! Jo told me to help myself, and did I! This excited me more than it should excite a 26 year old, but never the less, I helped myself to one, (three), large bag fulls. Hey, shooting a wedding is a long day, us photographers need snacks too!

The buffet was served and then the cake was cut. They had a three-tiered cake with personalised lego men of each other on top, which we thought was pretty cool! Then the disco started. The children loved it, and there were a lot of them, giving the adults a run for their money on the dance floor! Of course, there were plenty of big kids too…

The first dance was pretty special, as you could again see that amazing bond that Jo & Steve have. So much so that I cried. And I’m not a crier! The Regent Hotel was the perfect venue for their wedding, and although it was small, it was special. We’re so grateful that they asked us to photograph their day and it was clear to see that they enjoyed it as much as we did.
